Brand Strategy Director (New Business)
Reference #7316
Some strategy roles are about maintaining brands. This one is about building a business…
YOU
Our client is looking for a Brand Strategy Director to lead and grow a newly established creative offering across Australasia.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a genuinely influential role — shaping not only the work, but the future direction, growth, and commercial success of the business itself. Based in Auckland, Sydney, or Melbourne, you’ll work across a diverse mix of brand projects, partnering with clients to create thoughtful, commercially effective work that connects with people in meaningful ways.
A major focus of this role is new business growth.
The business is investing heavily in this offering and is looking for someone with the commercial drive, industry presence, and client relationships to help build a strong pipeline of new opportunities across New Zealand and/or Australia. This is not a role where new business sits on the sidelines — it’s a core part of the position and critical to the long-term success of the practice.
You’ll be someone who genuinely enjoys building relationships, opening doors, leading pitches, and converting opportunities into long-term client partnerships. Whether through your existing network, strategic outreach, or identifying opportunities within market, you’ll be confident driving conversations at senior levels and playing a visible role in growing the agency’s profile and client base.
Alongside strong commercial capability, you’ll come from a brand, strategy, or design agency background with proven experience leading complex strategic projects from discovery through to implementation. You’ll know how to uncover insights, bring clarity to complexity, and build strategic platforms that inspire both clients and creative teams.
You will also be an experienced people leader and play a key role in building, mentoring and leading this high performing team. As the practice grows, you’ll play a key role in building, mentoring, and leading a high-performing strategy team — creating a strong culture, developing capability, and helping shape the future structure of the offering as it expands.
We’re looking for someone who combines strong strategic thinking with commercial instinct and leadership capability. Extensive experience in brand strategy, team management, commercial planning, forecasting, pricing, utilisation, and P&L responsibility will all be important in this role.
You’ll work closely with creatives, designers, and experience specialists, helping ensure strategy translates into impactful, well-executed outcomes for clients.
You’ll lead an existing team of 10 across Australia and New Zealand, with regular travel between studios throughout the year. Together with leading and developing the current team, you’ll also play a key role in growing the capability and scale of the practice as the business continues to expand.
Above all, this role will suit someone entrepreneurial — someone energised by the opportunity to build something, grow a team, win new business, and make a genuine mark within an established and highly respected business.
THEM
Our client is a globally recognised, design-led business with an outstanding reputation for delivering meaningful work. With studios across Australasia and a deeply collaborative culture, they are now expanding their creative and strategic offering in a significant way.
You’ll be joining at an exciting stage of growth — with the opportunity to help shape the thinking, culture, and long-term direction of the practice while working alongside some of the region’s most respected creative and design leaders.
Benefits include flexible working, additional annual leave, wellbeing and medical support, bonus opportunities, and long-term growth pathways within the business.
